Day One: French Concession and Taikang Lu

My dad sent my mom over with a late Christmas present for us to open together:

A fortune cookie!
I wonder what it says inside . . .
"A mother and daughter's time together is priceless." Awwwww! The fortune cookie looks great in my apartment, with it's modern-Asian style.

Here is Mom getting used to riding a bike, a must-do during a stay in China:

This is the bike she is borrowing for her stay, the Giant "City Story." Many thanks to Nicole!

Happily seated on the bus.

We ate lunch at a place I have been meaning to go to, Le Creparie in the French Concession. This was my almond, chocolate, pear, and ice cream crepe. Needless to say, it was delicious!

This was my mom's crepe. The atmosphere was fun and French. My mom could not believe she was eating French food in China.

Then, we decided to walk to Taikang Lu. On the way, we saw both old China and new China, as is depicted in this photograph:

Walking on the tree-lined streets of the French Concession.

A fish tank in one of the stores on Taikang Lu.

This picture is for Grandy:

Shanghai is a city under constant construction and expansion:

What a city skyline looks like when you have 30 million people to house:

A rest in Costa Coffee, the Italian Starbucks:

Back in the apartment, and Mom was all over CNN.com looking for inaguaration coverage.

We watched the inauguration at an American bar called Malone's. The atmosphere was really great, and everyone was very excited to see the regime leave and hope enter the Oval Office.

That's all for now. Zaijian!
